Luke Eutsler Newsome

I’ve been a bit out of pocket the past few days. Raina and I went to the hospital early Tuesday morning to have Cassidy and Delaney’s little brother. 32 and a half hours later, on Wednesday January 4, 2006, Luke Eutsler Newsome was born to a very exhausted mother and a very nervous father. He weighed 7 lbs, 15 oz. and was almost 22 inches long.

Luke because it was Raina’s favorite out of all the names we considered.

Eutsler in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Eustler, who have been like a second set of parents to me, particularly after my father died when I was very young. If this little guy can be half the man his namesake is, I will be very proud of him.

Raina and Luke will hopefully get to come home on Saturday. The girls are very excited about their little brother and can’t wait until he gets home.

New Years Eve and Day

NYE05-767239

The Clarks and the Veldmans came over for a small New Years Eve party. We played some soccer and then the kids swam and watched a video while the moms played Rummikub and the dads watched football. It was a lot of fun, and once again made me appreciate the wonderful friends we have.

Today, the girls and I went to the post office to buy some stamps and then we picked up Raina and went to the Black Eyed Pea for black eyed peas.

Later, Cassidy and I played soccer and I achieved a milestone. I won my first game lifetime against Cassidy in a come from behind 10-9 victory. We played two more quick games and I won the first 1-0 and lost the second 0-1.

It’s been a fun day for all of us, and we have one more day to spend in the holiday frame of mind, as my office is closed tomorrow.

Happy New Year from the Newsome family!

This is So Wrong

And so hilarious. The only reason my friends didn’t do this to me back in the day is because there wasn’t a lottery.

Click on the photo to watch as some guys job their buddy into thinking that he won the lottery. They recorded the lottery numbers as they were announced for the previous drawing and then bought a current lottery ticket with those numbers. So this guy is unknowingly watching a recorded lottery number announcement while holding a ticket for the current lottery with the same numbers. Cruel…and brilliant.

WARNING: Lots of cursing, so don’t watch at work or around tender ears.

Interesting Post on TV Shows and DVDs

TV Squad had a post yesterday on how music licensing problems have killed or delayed plans to release some classic TV shows on DVD.

The studios have to negotiate with both the record label cartel for the right to use the recording (to play the recording of the song on the DVD) and the music publishers who control the copyright to the song (to use song itself, as opposed to the recording of the song, on the DVD).

These costs are why advertisers are getting play for sponsoring the music on some current TV shows. This happens every week on Nip/Tuck and may happen on other shows (I don’t watch many current TV dramas, so I can’t tell if this is a trend or not).

Anyway, the point is that the record label cartel continues its war against the consumer. The goal, of course, is not to keep the songs off of the DVDs. The goal is to make them more expensive, with the additional money to find its way into the cartel’s pockets.

Christmas Part 3: Christmas Day

Cassidy woke everyone up around 8:15. I came downstairs first to get the video camera ready, then the the girls came bounding down the steps to see what Santa had left for them. We opened presents, played with our toys and ate stocking candy for breakfast.

Later we went to church, where every child got to bring his or her favorite toy to the front for the blessing of the toys. It was the first time I recall seeing this, and it was very cool. Afterwards, we came home and the girls played some more and jumped on the trampoline. In the afternoon, we went to the Fenrichs for a wonderful Christmas meal of homemade gumbo and potato salad. We played a litte croquet and the kids exchanged gifts.

Then we came home, played some more and the girls collapsed in their beds after a fun and busy day.

It was a great Christmas.

Christmas Part 2: Christmas Eve

Today was a fun and relaxing day. The Clarks came over this afternoon and we played soccer in the new yard. The girls (Cassidy, Evie, Delaney and Yvette) beat the boys (me, Greg and Aidan) 20-8. I have yet to win a game on the new soccer field.

Later we went with the Fenrichs to the children’s Christmas Eve service at church and then to Outback for dinner. Last Christmas Eve we did the same thing, except it was snowing really hard and we came home afterwards and had a snowball fight.

After dinner the Fenrichs and the Clarks came over for dessert. The kids played on the trampoline and had a great time. Arnie and I played some pool.

After everyone left, the kids opened their traditional Christmas Eve presents, wrote a note for Santa and ran off to bed.

What a fun day!
