I love it when I see a new live on KEXP performance. This is so good.
Tinariwen is a Grammy Award-winning band from Mali, known for their unique blend of traditional Tuareg music, blues, and rock. Formed in the late 1970s, the band’s name means “deserts” in the Tamashek language. A great find of Tinariwen, truly unique and of their kind sound.
The sounds reminded me of some I’d recognised on a few of, my favourite artist, Bruce Cockburn’s tracks. Especially on his “Breakfast in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu” album and specifically tracks like “Use Me While You Can” and “Down to the Delta”. He travelled to Mali in 90s so isn’t surprising the sounds from there and the surroundings influenced him. Thanks again.
